Hōkūleʻa Visits Kona Village Resort

Hōkūleʻa - our Star of Gladness - is a double-hulled voyaging canoe built and launched in the 1970's that is helping to revive the legacy of exploration, courage, and ingenuity that brought the first Polynesians to the archipelago of Hawaii. Guided by traditional navigation techniques across open ocean that have helped to revive a voyaging heritage, Hōkūléʻa has traveled across the world. And, at the end of September, it visited Kauwai Bay and Kona Village Resort, which is nearing construction completion.

Kennedy Wilson's own Mike Field had the unique honor of sailing on the vessel during its visit to the islands. On the trip back from the Big Island to Oahu, Mike sailed alongside Tava, a character and a legend, as well as a former Kona Village employee who was responsible for carving some of the old relics at Kona Village.

"This vessel is the crown jewel for Hawaiians - she stands for everything Hawaiians are known for, as voyagers and watermen. The mere fact she rested in Kauwai Bay speaks volumes to the people of the Big Island. We are super blessed and proud to have her here for a few days," said Mike.
